Fredrick Harris is Dean Emeritus of Social Science and Class of 1933 Professor of Political Science at Columbia University. He is the author of several books, including the triple-award winning Something Within: Religion in African American Political Activism and Price of the Ticket: Barack Obama and the Rise and Decline of Black Politics, which received the Hurston/Wright Book Award for Non-Fiction. Professor Harris is also the co-editor of the Oxford University book series Transgressing Boundaries: Studies in Black Politics and Black Communities. His essays have appeared in Dissent, London Review of Books, The New York Times, Society, Souls, Transition, and the Washington Post.
